New!
Do you have what it takes to be a superhero? Stop by the donor drive booth at the post race party and find out how you can help save a life.

YOU HAVE THE POWER

Every day, thousands of patients with leukemia and other life-threatening diseases hope for a marrow donor who can make their transplant possible. Seventy percent of patients do not have a donor in their family. They depend on people like you.

The Need for Diversity

Because tissue types are inherited, patients are most likely to match someone of their own race or ethnicity. People of every background are needed. Registry members from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds are especially needed, so every patient has a second chance at life.

Registry members of these backgrounds are urgently needed:

  • Black or African American
  • American Indian
  • Asian, including South Asian
  • Native Hawaiian or other
    Pacific Islander
  • Hispanic or Latino
  • Multiple race

To be a match, all you need is to:

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 60.
  • Be willing to donate to any patient
    in need.
  • Meet the health guidelines.

run a Race, Help Save Lives

Each year, more than 30,000 people are diagnosed with leukemia and other life-threatening diseases that could be cured with a marrow or blood cell transplant. Yet, only 30% of those patients are able to find a matched donor within their families. The other 70% must turn to the National Marrow Donor Program Registry.

Although more than 5 million potential donors are on the Registry, there is a desperate need for more donors of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander and multiple race patients face a greater challenge in finding a match than do White/Caucasian patients. Therefore, even with millions of donors available on the Registry, some patients with unique tissue types are unable to find a match.
